4 Reliable Alternatives to a Used Ford F-150

4 Reliable Alternatives to a Used Ford F-150 Ford likes to remind us that the F-150 is “America’s Favorite Truck.” And while the F-150 is among the most reliable full-size pickup truck on the market, you have many alternatives. In fact, the truck scored higher than any F-150 truck in reliability ratings: the 2019 Nissan Titan. I gave the truck a score of 8.1/10 when it was new. Since Nissan gave the 2020 Titan a visual update, the reliable 2019 trucks are relatively affordable in the current used pickup market.

The 2019 Ford F-150 beats JD Power’s top model reliability score with an 86/100 — and just managed to tie in with the 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, which also got an 86/100. Back when the Silverado debuted, US News was very impressed with its easy-to-use infotainment touchscreen and available hybrid V8, giving it a score of 8.4/10.

General Motors offered the same features and options in the mechanically identical 2018 GMC Sierra 1500. The 2018 Silverado was also the last year of the third-generation pickup truck (4th generation Sierra), and thus is yet another reliable and affordable truck in the used pickup market.

2017 Toyota Tundra

Similar to Nissan, Toyota has built the latest generation Tundra for many years. That means the automaker had plenty of time to sort out any technical issues, and by 2017, the full-size Tundra had an expected reliability score of 84/100 from JD Power. Meanwhile, US News deemed the truck’s technology a bit outdated and only gave it an overall score of 7.2/10.

The 2017 Toyota Tundra is a bit notable because it was the first year to offer Blind Spot Monitoring on some models. Toyota offered the truck with a 4.6-liter V8 or a 5.7-liter V8, both paired with a six-speed automatic. The larger engine produces 381 horsepower.

Overall, Toyota built the second generation Tundra from 2007 through 2021, with a major update in 2014. With more third generation Tundras (2022-present) on the road, we should see the price of this older Tundra drop. , which is great news for anyone looking for a reliable alternative to the Ford F-150 Pickup Truck.

In fact, the 2018 model in use features the same coil-over springs, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and an available 5.7-liter HEMI V8 as the new Ram 1500. Smooths the auto start/stop function of the engine. Some trim levels for 2018 even featured Apple CarPlay / Android Auto.

US News gave the 2018 Ram 1500 Advanced an overall score of 8.6/10. If you’re okay with the older cross-grid and fourth-generation interior, you can get a 2018 Ram 1500 for less money than a comparable 2019 Ram 1500.
