He has a potential braking problem. A technical service bulletin has been issued in an effort to correct the problem.

Ford shared that the holding brake condition occurs at speeds less than 6.2 mph, and could be related to software in the anti-lock brake system module.

Technicians were instructed to check for software updates related to the anti-lock braking system module, on-board diagnostics control module, and battery power control module. Then they have to do the updates one by one.

Does this mean that they don’t have a specific software update to fix the problem? In any case, the Maverick should be taken for a test drive to see if the malfunction indicator light was triggered by DTC code P0402.

If this occurs, the differential pressure EGR sensor may need to be replaced. This maintenance will be performed at no cost to the owners.

However, there are plenty of complaints about the brakes that surfaced months after the Technical Service Bulletin was issued.

Additionally, this caused the Maverick to fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108, “Lights, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”

The letters were mailed to at-risk owners in November 2022. Also, a software update applied to the ABS unit for free. However, this was not related to the grip brake and did not provide a solution to it.

Lemberg Law investigates these complaints because brake failure can be serious. Multiple drivers from different states have shared their complaints, so this issue may be bigger than expected.
