GM has been busy putting the Silverado EV through various pull tests. This is great because people want their pickup trucks to be capable. But towing tests leave out one important piece of information.
Does the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado have good towing range?
We’re still waiting to see how much run 2024 loses during the draw. General Motors has been keeping quiet about how the 2024 Silverado EV will perform with loads between 7,000 and 10,000 pounds.
We shared that the 2024 towing test had good results. The Silverado EV hauled a 7,700-pound trailer with multiple speeds, and GM engineers claimed it worked well.
The 2024 Silverado EV is said to provide a smooth ride while towing. It also responds to road conditions and driver feedback in an intuitive way.
Silverado EVs with extreme towing features get standard four-wheel steering to help make maneuvering a trailer easier. In addition, the first version has the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system with towing capabilities.
The Silverado EV Work Truck features a twin-engine paired with four-wheel drive that produces 510 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque. The RST has a similar setup with 664 hp and 780 lb-ft of torque.
We’re waiting to see the range of the WT model, but the RST’s range is estimated at 400 miles on a single charge to help with the towing distance.
Nicole Kratz, chief engineer for Chevrolet’s electric pickup truck, shared that it’s important for owners of full-size pickup trucks to tow, tow, and do everything a conventional truck can do. She believes General Motors has set the standard with an incredible product.
How capable is the Silverado EV?
The units will power job sites and are available with up to 10 outlets, including two 240-volt outlets. It can pump out up to 10 kilowatts of power, enough juice to charge another electric truck.
Speaking of charging, the Silverado EV can replenish about 100 miles of range in about 10 minutes. The front box or the back box should provide space for charging cables and other gadgets. Also, the bed can store items up to 10 feet long. It can carry a load of up to 1300 lbs.
All of these stats look good on paper, but the 2024 Silverado EV hasn’t been tested. We need to see its scope in action to see if it can deliver on all of its promises.
