What Is a 6X6 Truck?

While a 4×4 truck is a must-have for off-road enthusiasts, there is another new in town catching the attention of those looking for better traction, mobility, and performance. The 6×6 truck handles dirt, sand, and other rough terrain, but you’ll need a hefty wallet to buy one of these bad boys.

Once built solely for military purposes, it is gaining popularity among domestic users, although it still has a long way to go before it becomes mainstream. Modification shops have been making these trucks for a while, but recently several well-known auto manufacturers have gotten into the game, taking off-roading to a new level.

Lauderdale, Florida is making a name for itself in the market, churning out outrageous truck designs with a hefty price tag in excess of $250,000. According to, “Pickup trucks are in their lineup.” They explained that the custom-built trucks are “designed to look big and aggressive” and “can handle anything”.

Is a 6×6 truck better than a 4×4?

Most are designed to provide greater traction, with an impressive powertrain for improved payload capabilities. While a 6×6 truck has distinct advantages, some of the disadvantages include the extra maintenance cost and an extra set of tires, wheels, brakes, differentials, strut bar, etc.

A four-wheel-equipped minivan has a single axle, while a 6×6 truck uses two axles (with two wheels on each) to optimize weight distribution across the vehicle, adding to its off-road prowess.

Although a 6×6 can go places other trucks can’t, a traditional 4×4 off-road pickup truck is easier to maneuver and accelerates faster due to its smaller size and lighter weight. It is also larger than its larger counterpart.

Measuring 19 feet long and with over 18 inches of ground clearance, “the G63 AMG 6×6 has a twin-turbocharged, intercooled DOHC V8 engine that produces 536 horsepower.” It can reach a top speed of 99 mph, and goes from 0 to 60 mph in less than six seconds.
