For most of the time they were around, speed wasn’t a factor for them. However, these days, it seems that everyone and their brother want to. Building a vehicle with tons of horsepower usually means sacrificing most of the other aspects that make driving a car fun. However, the two fastest pickup trucks of 2023 are among the highest rated in Consumer Reports.

What are the fastest pickup trucks on the market?

There is no shortage of. Models like the and the are powerful behemoths designed to destroy dunes at devastating speeds. Even then, Dino Trucks can’t get stuck with the near-instant acceleration of modern electric powertrains. Which is why the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T are the fastest trucks Consumer Reports has reviewed to date.

Both rated higher than any other full-size pickup with only one exception, the Ram 1500.

Considering the taste of the rest of Consumer Reports, this is pretty awful. Cars and trucks that tend to rank better in CR tend to be milder in behavior. Cars like the Toyota Camry, SUVs like the Kia Telluride, and trucks like trucks always come out on top. And while these two trucks are still beaten by the Ram, they beat every other full-size pickup and some mid-size pickups.

Even crazier, these two trucks would have led the pack a mile without some of the reliability concerns not known with new technology. Both driving degrees were exceptional. The only downside to these two models was that Consumer Reports felt it could not reliably predict good due to the newness of the technology.

Is Ford’s 2023 F-150 Lightning a Good Truck?

CR gushed about the all-electric 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning. The cabin is quiet and beautifully designed. Top-of-the-line 580-horsepower Rocket engines with an incredibly brisk rush of speed. Even with all that power, the F-150 Lightning can get up to 230 miles of range on a full charge. This is also the first time the F-150 has had an independent rear suspension, giving the truck an appropriately comfortable and quiet ride. For all of these quick ideas and more, the Ford Lightning is second overall for full-size pickup trucks.

Is the Rivian R1T a good truck?

Similar to Lightning, Rivian is a proper power (pun intended). It can go from 0-60 mph in just 3.8 seconds thanks to the 835-hp electric powertrain. Rivian offers luxury no other pickup truck in the past has offered. Not only can an electric pickup truck rip like a supercar, but it can also go off-road to the best of its ability. If all that wasn’t enough, the Rivian is packed with unique and clever features like the famous gear tunnel, extendable electric galley option, and zero-turn capabilities.

Again, like the Ford, the Rivian is pretty new, and there isn’t enough data for the CR to predict solid reliability yet. Fortunately, CR is updating its reliability scores as more data comes in.

Right now, Consumer Reports’ two fastest pickup trucks are two of the most-ranked trucks on the site. This is not only alien to CR but also exciting to the truck world.
