What Happened to the Nissan Titan Warrior Concept?

Think eight years ago, off-road monsters were the thing. The Ram launched the Rebel, the Ford Raptor was the hottest truck on four wheels, and the Tundra TRD Pro was making waves. Nissan’s full-size Titan truck came with the Pro-4X off-road package. Then Nissan dropped the Titan Warrior concept and it looked like Nissan was bringing in the big guns.

Unfortunately, the Warrior never made it into production.

The Warrior was announced as a cool concept truck in 2016. Although it kind of looks like a Titan with stripes, it’s (like the Raptor) a full-featured off-road truck. Nissan beefed up the heavy-duty Titan XD engine for this concept. I asked the question, “What happens when you take the Titan XD and make a competitor out of the Raptor.” Unfortunately, this was a question that no one asked.

It had cool off-road lights built into the roof, extra beefy skid plates, a supposedly factory lift that hid fancy shocks, various control arms, and a custom axle and sway bar. It also came with a monster engine. It was about six inches wider than a regular truck. Nissan packed the truck with a Cummins Turbo Diesel V8, which delivered an impressive 555 lb-ft of torque.

Inside, it had special off-road gauges and impressive carbon fiber inserts. It sure looked the part. Although it looked like it would arrive as a, it never did.

Nissan Titan Warrior was not built

The Warrior was based on the heavy version of the Titan, the Titan XD. The XD was a little beefier than the regular Titan, but it didn’t have the capacity of, say, a true 1-ton truck like the Silverado 2500HD. Despite this, it has the wonderful Cummins V8 diesel engine. Regardless, Nissan killed the XD diesel version of the Titan in 2020, but it still makes the big truck.

When the company killed XD, most likely, it also meant that the warrior was stillborn as well. Truck enthusiasts have been crying out for some time to get Nissan to build the Warrior, but that wasn’t the case. However, the Pro-4X package pulled off a 317-horsepower (at the time) V8.

Titan will also leave now

Nissan put it soon, and fans of inexpensive full-size trucks with V8s regret the loss. Sometime before 2025, the trucks will reportedly cease to exist. However, the magazine also admitted that the truck never quite lived up to the improvement of the Big Three trucks. The Giant comes in two versions, the standard and an XD that boosts towing and hauling capabilities a bit.

The Titan may not be the best new truck you can buy, but it packs a lot for the price. The Titan starts at $39,700 and a 400-hp V8 is standard. It can tow more than 11,000 pounds, seats five, and comes as a four-door Comfort King. The Pro-4X off-road package starts at $52,810, but it offers a locking differential, Bilstein shocks and all-terrain tires.

Nissan made many things that had not been produced before. Perhaps in the last few years of its life, Nissan will finally make the truck we’ve wanted all along.
