Avoid Ford F-150 Pickups From These Years: Here’s Why

Certain years of Ford Trucks are better than others. They’re all pre-2018 models, partly because Ford got the F-150 together, and partly because it’s newer, so there’s less miles to be racked up. Recently, they have been microscoped over reliability issues, but not enough information is available yet to locate them. For now, the newer F-150s appear to be more reliable than the ones we present here.

2004 to 2006 versions of the F-150

The reasons for these years of F-150 trucks, especially the 2004 and 2005 years, fall into four categories, gas tank belts, airbags, spark plugs, and power windows. Gas tank belts were a common problem, as they quickly rusted causing the gas tanks to separate.

, and a 6.8-liter V10. And the problems with the window were that the window control was broken, or the window wouldn’t work at all.

The problem with these issues is that these trucks are out of warranty for a long time. So while something like a window run issue is minor, it all costs the DIYer money or time. So the best suggestion is to just pass on these three years of the F-150.

The 2010 F-150 was plagued with more spark plug issues, touchscreen failures, and transmission issues. Failures and misfires are in part due to the lower coils being too much for the spark plugs. The May Ford Touch Screen technology was in its infancy, with plenty of bugs including slow response and several backup camera issues.

Transmissions fail regularly, even those low miles. Ford had issues with automatic transmissions throughout this era, but 2010 was when the real problems came together. .

These years F-150s have sold well, with lots of happy owners. But there were countless problems for these three years. Brake problems are the biggest problem, with sudden malfunctions that many drivers suffer from.

Owners have said that the master cylinders need to be replaced after the brakes stop working, according to him. Within minutes of the “low brake fluid” warning, the trucks had no brakes.

There were also serious problems with both engine and transmission failures. Shifting problems occurred, in many cases, while towing 5,000 pounds or more. Once again, the F-150 is the best-selling car in the United States, and there are millions of happy owners with their purchase. But reliability seems to ebb and flow when it comes to the F-150.
