3 Reasons the Base 2023 Ford Maverick Is a Great Small Truck

Since its introduction, the Maverick has captivated both existing truck owners and newcomers to the segment. It comes at a fairly reasonable price, standard hybrid drive, and is from a brand known for making pickups. And while choosing a 2023 Ford Maverick XLT or Lariat might seem tempting, there’s a lot to like about a hybrid.

What is the base model of the 2023 Ford Maverick?

The base model of a small Ford is the Maverick XL. And while it’s fairly basic, it’s still up for some truck duty. With the hybrid engine, it can tow 2,000 pounds and can handle up to 1,500 pounds of payload. This may be far from the 4,000-pound maximum towing capacity, but it should suffice for most uses.

It can come with steel wheels. In fact, it’s standard fare for this pickup truck. The steel wheel helps give the Maverick XL a more rugged look. Plus, it won’t be as easy to damage as some of the other modern wheels out there.

The 2023 Ford Maverick may come standard with a modern hybrid powertrain, but the base wheel selection makes it look old school. Especially since the rest of the truck looks and feels like a conventional truck.

2. Standard hybrid drive

As mentioned before, the Ford pickup truck comes with a hybrid powertrain. You can get the optional 2.0-liter EcoBoost at no extra charge, though, and the Maverick hybrid still appears to be popular.

The EPA gives this compact little car a fuel economy rating of 40 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 37 mpg combined. Looks like some people managed to get better miles out of the Mavericks. One Youtuber reported seeing 50 mpg from the truck, which is pretty good for a truck.

1. Usable interior

The Maverick XL won’t have all the features this pickup truck has to offer. But this little car can still be a comfortable place to be. The engineers at Blue Oval clearly wanted this car to be practical. It seems that they succeeded in this task.

Each comes standard with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. So you don’t have to worry about paying extra for the convenience of connecting. Accordingly, you’ll need to step up to some of the higher trim levels to get active safety tech, like adaptive cruise control.

This shouldn’t be a huge deal because, remember, the Ford Maverick XL’s base MSRP is less than $25,000.
