There’s a lot to like about cars, with their powerful engines, hauling capabilities, off-road capabilities, and premium features. However, with inflation rising, GMC models, like cars from other automakers, are more expensive. There’s a GMC that’s still within everyone’s reach. It’s the 2022 GMC Canyon Midsize Pickup Truck – GMC’s new pickup. Also, the 2023 Canyon is even better with its impressive redesign.
The 2022 GMC Canyon pickup truck is GMC’s cheapest new vehicle
With a starting price of $26,800 MSRP, the 2022 Canyon is GMC’s cheapest new car. The 2023 Canyon costs significantly more ($36,600 MSRP)—but benefits from several upgrades with its redesign. The next more affordable GMC models are the 2023 GMC Terrain ($29,900) and the 2023 Acadia midsize SUV ($36,800).
$37,200 for the MSRP
As you can see, the price of GMC vehicles rises exponentially as you get older in the model lineup, especially for the Hummer EV pickup. Also, for some GMC vehicles, there are more expensive off-road versions AT4 and AT4X – as well as luxury Denali models. Still, the 2022 Canyon, GMC’s cheapest new sedan, is an affordable option.
The 2022 GMC Canyon offers an excellent value with many great features
One reason the 2022 GMC continues to drop in price is the upcoming version of the redesigned 2023 model. Demand for the 2023 model is high, which has led to lower demand for the 2022 version. And when you factor in the lower price and all it has to offer, the 2022 Canyon is a pickup truck bargain. It is an excellent value choice.
Performance-wise, engine options for the midsize truck include a 3.6-liter V-6 with 308 horsepower and a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 200 horsepower. Also, for diesel fans, there’s the Duramax turbodiesel 2.8-liter four-cylinder, which puts out 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Plus, when the 2022 Canyon is properly equipped, it can tow up to 7,700 lbs.
Moreover, the pickup truck offers a wide range of standard and available features. Examples include heated and cooled front seats, LED signature lighting, EZ-Lift and Lower Tailgate, spray-on bed liner, and a heated steering wheel. Also, there are useful technologies, such as the GMC infotainment system with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, wireless charging, built-in Amazon Alexa, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
2023 Canyon is much better with a comprehensive redesign
While the redesigned 2023 Canyon is significantly more expensive than the 2022 model, it’s a better pickup truck overall. That includes better performance, exemplified by the new 2.7-liter turbocharged engine, which delivers 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.
In addition, the restyled car has more off-road capabilities – with higher ground clearance for all models. Plus, there’s the all-new AT4X off-road model, with features like front and rear electronic lockers, 33-inch all-terrain tires, a Baja drive mode, and lower skid plates.
As for exterior design, the 2023 Canyon gets a new design, with a bolder look and bolder stance. The interior of the truck is also more refined and modern. In addition, it offers new technologies, including a head-up display, built-in Google, under-mount cameras and a digital driver information center.
If you’re drawn to the GMC brand and want a budget-friendly pickup truck, take a look at the 2022 GMC Canyon. It’s the cheapest new GMC. Alternatively, you can wait for the redesigned 2023 model, but it costs a lot more. Choosing between the two versions is a matter of weighing the affordability of the 2022 model against the upgrades of the 2023 version.
