Fast, what is the fastest truck in the world? Today is the Rivian R1T, with the Ram 1500 TRX hot in its wake. But for years, the right answer was the legendary Syclone. This compact van was so fast that Road and Track pitted it against Ferrari in their head-to-head review. But while modern monster trucks cost upwards of $100,000, you can still get a used GMC Syclone for under $30,000.
This 1991 GMC Syclone sold on Cars & Bids for $22,000
In 2021, the 1991 GMC Syclone supertruck is featured on the Cars & Bids website. It was far from an example of showroom quality, with 117,000 miles, reported paint chips, fender flares, a cracked dashboard, and driver seat wear.

$29K GMC Syclone fails to sell on Ebay
Here’s an even crazier story. It appeared on eBay this year. Its owner listed it at a fairly high price, and did not sell it. So they dropped the price and listed it again. and again. They finally try to sell their GMC Syclone supercharged truck at a $29,000 “buy it now” price tag, but no dice. At the time of this writing, the Syclone classified ad has expired.
Now, some buyer may have contacted the landlord and struck a deal. If so, we have no way of knowing how much this monster truck actually changed. But we know that at $29K, there weren’t many interested buyers.
There are several other GMC Syclones currently listed for much higher prices ($60k-$70k), and they might sell some quality trucks for that. But there are no recorded sales on eBay at this price.
The GMC Syclone is a collectible truck that is underappreciated by truck collectors
The GMC Syclone has been a part of automotive history. GMC’s decision to throw a Buick Grand National engine and AWD powertrain into its pickup truck should inspire supertrucks for generations to come.
But since the Chevrolet Silverado 454SS and Ford F-150 SVT Lightning were full-size trucks, neither could be hung with the GMC Syclone supertruck. Because of this, the Syclone has held the 0-60 record for years.
Apparently, the GMC Syclone can hit 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. To put that in context, the best time tested for the Hellcat-powered TRX was 3.7 seconds. I found that it could only get the Cyclone to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. But that was fast enough to beat the all-new Ferrari 348ts the truck pitted against.
It’s safe to say that the GMC Syclone has reached peak consumption. But GMC doesn’t make more classic Syclones (although you can order the badge on the 2023 Sierra). So the value of this piece of automotive history can increase: get one while you can!
