You can’t have the best full-size pickup trucks from 2009 without the Ford F-150
After reviewing the 2009 Ford F-150, I found that it was a favorite among our testers. Ford offered the F-150 with two solid engine options, making it a good deal for those in need of a versatile truck. The base V8 gets 15 mpg city and 20 highway, but the largest 5.4-liter V8 can tow up to 11,300 lb. -ft. You’ll need the base engine to improve fuel economy, but the F-150 is one of the best full-size pickups since 2009.
It comes in either rear- or all-wheel drive, and the pickup got between 248 and 310 horsepower. That was enough to power him around town, though some competing trucks may have more. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety even gave the F-150 high safety scores in tests conducted for 2009, enough to earn it a Top Safety Pick award.
The 2009 Toyota Tundra is one of the best full-size pickups around
People loved it, as did the experts who reviewed it. Tundra tied the F-150 as the best full-size pickup truck of 2009, thanks to its powerful engine and fuel economy. The Toyota Tundra is offered with either a base V6 or an upgraded V8. The two-wheel-drive V6 averaged 15 mpg city and 19 mpg highway; The V8 gets 13 mpg and 16. Not the best, but Toyota made up for it elsewhere.
The Tundra can tow up to 10,800 pounds with the larger V8, one of the loudest engines in its class. Some of the Tundra’s standard features include dual-zone manual climate control and a four-speaker stereo system. Higher trim levels also got power windows, locks, mirrors, and Bluetooth capability. If that wasn’t enough, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Tundra high scores in all tests conducted and a Top Safety Pick award.
The Silverado 1500 from Chevrolet has three engine options
Those who need powerful engine options won’t want to miss out on the 1500. Of course, the more powerful engines come with worse fuel economy. The 2009 Chevrolet Silverado is offered with three engines, a base V6 and two V8s. Both options were four-wheel drive and two-wheel drive. The base V6 got 15 mpg city and 20 mpg highway, but that’s down quite a bit for the V8s (12 city/18 highway). However, the 6.0-liter V8 can tow 10,700 lbs.
The Chevrolet Silverado has made the interior surprisingly comfortable. The regular cab can accommodate three passengers, and the extended/crew cab can accommodate up to six people. It even gets a CD stereo with an auxiliary input jack! Bluetooth was available on higher trim levels. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety did not give the 2009 Silverado Excellent safety ratings, which is something to consider.
The 2009 Cadillac Escalade and GMC Sierra also topped the list if you need more inspiration. The best full-size pickups from 2009 aren’t known for being fuel efficient, but there are some better options out there. Sacrificing towing numbers for fuel economy is a reasonable trade-off, so consider both.
