While the ‘XRT’ doesn’t really stand for anything, it does indicate that we have solid off-road trim. So, we were off-road for the test drive, which is surprisingly capable without breaking the bank.
How much does a 2022 Hyundai Tucson XRT cost?
The XRT starts at $31,850, which is a bargain compared to similar off-road models. For example, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 TRD Off-Road starts at $36,915, and the 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness starts at $37,695.
The XRT comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 187 horsepower and 179 pound-feet of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in approx. This is a great strength to pass others on the highway.
When properly equipped, the Tucson can tow up to 2,000 pounds and carry a payload of 1,304 pounds. The Toyota RAV4 can tow up to 3,500 pounds, but 2,000 is still enough to tow smaller campers.
Over the dirt and gravel paths through the woods, we were concerned about ground clearance. The Tuscon XRT has a ground clearance of just 7.1 inches, but we didn’t get rid of the bottom or fenders while climbing over larger obstacles.
The Tuscon features an AWD lock, which is useful for getting through deeper mud puddles and climbing up obstacles. There’s plenty of power and torque to tap to take on light challenges. It controls steep slopes without any fuss.

Tucson has a relatively smooth ride on the trail, but rougher patches of rock can rock the interior. The Tuscon feels light, but is well planted around slippery curves. The tires never slipped and provided excellent cornering stability.

Is the Tucson XRT comfortable?
Yes, it is a comfortable SUV for adventure. The ride is very smooth on pavement, and the larger off-road impacts are well absorbed. Wind and road noise is kept away unless the pavement is rough or grooved.
Fabric seats are large and supportive for people of all shapes and sizes. But they can use more padding for longer trips. Also, the dual-zone climate control system works quickly and effectively.
Additionally, the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system is easy to use. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and a wireless phone charging pad is conveniently located.
The Hyundai Tucson XRT is a good and affordable option with plenty of capabilities, modern technologies, and convenience features.
