Shopify & Microsoft Team Up To Help Merchants Reach More Shoppers

Microsoft today announced a new Shopify partnership that gives merchants access to more customers through Shopify’s updated Microsoft Channel app.

The updated Channel app, now available to merchants in the United States and Canada, allows advertisers to take advantage of both the Microsoft Search Network and the Microsoft Audience Network.

The products are then automatically eligible to be displayed in the Microsoft Bing Shopping tab and the Microsoft Start Shopping tab for free as product listings.

Varsha Pullar, Director of Programs at Microsoft Advertising, explained in the announcement:

“To significantly expand the reach of their brands and products across the Microsoft Search Network and Microsoft Audience Network, merchants can create new ad campaigns and view their marketing performance with real-time reports in their Shopify store.”

Bolar also revealed that product ads and product listings will “soon” feature a “buy now” button to give shoppers a quick option to pay directly from the ad experience. The timetable for this rollout has not been determined.

This is the latest in a series of updates to Microsoft Advertising designed to engage consumers and expand advertisers’ reach.

In July, multimedia ads were launched as a new responsive ad format that displays on Bing.com search pages, either at the top of the SERP or in the left bar.

August saw us roll out our target impression share strategy, dynamic site and other Auto ad extensions, product conversion goal tracking for Shopping campaigns, and more.

And in September, we got a pilot program for video ads on the Microsoft Audience Network, vertical product ads in the US and UK, and adding embedded appeals to the Microsoft Merchant Center.

Shopify has made improvements of its own with the launch of Shopify Markets, a central hub for managing cross-border sales, and the addition of Facebook Pay as a checkout option (in the US).

Shopify merchants now have more control over their store’s SEO, too, thanks to a June update that made Shopify store editable robots.txt files.

Polar from Shopify’s updated Microsoft Channel app said,

“The setup process is simple, allowing merchants to quickly connect with shopping offers featuring their products using both free and paid listings.”
