Only 1 New Midsize Truck Is Recommended by Consumer Reports in 2023
Although there are many mid-size pickups available, it can be difficult to find one that is highly reliable. However, there is an exception. There’s only one new mid-size truck in 2023 that Consumer Reports is highly reliable: the 2023 Honda Ridgeline.
The 2023 Honda Ridgeline is Consumer Report’s only mid-size pickup truck
The 2023 Honda has earned a High Recommendation from Consumer Reports. CR has analyzed other midsize trucks, but none were reliable enough to receive the coveted recommendation. This includes the 2023 Ford Ranger, 2023 Toyota Tacoma, 2023 Jeep Gladiator and 2023 Nissan Frontier. While Consumer Reports has not yet evaluated the redesigned 2023 Chevy Colorado and 2023 GMC Canyon trucks, the organization has not recommended either truck for 2022.
CR bases its recommendation for the 2023 Ridgeline on the Automotive Reliability Survey
The 2023 Honda Ridgeline is a high quality, reliable and durable pickup truck. Learn about these traits in our annual Automotive Reliability Survey, which it uses to create its list of recommendations. CR recommended the 2022 Honda Ridgeline, and following the results of the Automotive Reliability Survey, the recommendation continues for 2023.
For the Automotive Reliability survey, Consumer Reports assessed 17 potential problem areas over the past 12 months—with owner surveys from more than 300,000 vehicles. Examples of problem areas include paint, leaks, electrical systems, brakes, noise, and engines. Reliability scores were high in these potential problem areas, so the midsize pickup truck stuck with CR’s recommendations in 2023.
Other auto experts have rated the Ridgeline as the best midsize truck
Along with Consumer Reports’ recommendations for high reliability, other auto experts have ranked the 2023 Honda Ridgeline as the best midsize pickup truck. This includes and US News & World Report. The Ridgeline gets some flack from “truck traditionalists” who bemoan its SUV-like unibody, but auto connoisseurs love it. The monocoque is one of the Ridgeline’s strengths, as it provides the ride comfort of an SUV—while still providing the utility and capabilities of a pickup truck.
In its review of the Ridgeline, Car and Driver highlighted its “roomy cabin, comfortable ride, and weatherproof under-bed luggage compartment.” In its analysis, it states that the midsize truck has “a nimble V6 engine, a spacious and upscale interior, and a refined ride and handling.”
The 2023 Ridgeline offers four trims: Sport, RTL, RTL-E, and Black Edition. Its starting price ranges from $38,800 MSRP for the Sport trim to $46,230 MSRP for the black version.
