Some precious metals have been pumped over the past year. The Japanese automaker has redesigned the Accord and CR-V for the 2023 model year and the Civic for the 2022 model year. These new updates mean new body styles, new engines, and more luxury features. However, people have noticed one Honda model in particular and named it the “Best Car to Buy in 2023.”
Which Honda model won the “Best Car to Buy 2023” award?
It recently named the 2023 Honda Civic Type R the “Best Car to Buy in 2023.” That might come as a surprise, given that the Civic Type R isn’t the most readily available or cheapest Honda model you can buy. However, the automotive publication praised the hot Honda hatchback for adhering to “the formula fans know and love.”
The Civic Type R won this award. The last time was in 2018 when a first-generation Civic Type R won it. This time, however, Motor Authority liked that the Civic’s wild child had grown up but was still a “riot,” despite its high price tag.
What’s so great about the 2023 Honda Civic Type R?

This all-new version of the hot hatchback is based on the Model 11y-Generation Civic of the body style, which is characterized by elegant exterior aesthetics and elegant interior design. On the Civic Type R, however, there are heavily bolstered red cloth seats, red carpeting, and red door accents.
There’s also a 9-inch touchscreen, a new Honda data-logging system, and plenty of room for up to four adults. Under the hood is a familiar 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that makes 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, meaning it’s the most powerful Type-R ever produced. This engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission only that uses a limited-slip differential to help put the power to the ground.
Additionally, Honda beefed up the car’s suspension with a retuned front strut and rear multi-link setup that pairs well with the adaptive dampers. These dampers can be set to different positions for a more comfortable ride or sportier experience, depending on what the situation calls for.
Finally, a set of twin-piston Brembo brakes give the car plenty of stopping power on the track and street.
The 2023 Honda Civic Type R may be the best car money can buy, but it’s not the least expensive
Now that we can see why the Motor Authority gave the 2023 Honda Civic Type R its Best Buy Car award, it’s worth noting that the car’s price tag is high for the new model year.
Honda sets it at $43,990, which makes it more expensive than the larger Accord. However, looking at the Civic Type R’s stats, there is no denying that it offers a more exciting drive than its big brother, which is why it has proven to be the best car to buy this year.
