GM Issues 4 Recalls for Flying Axles to Fuel Pump Failures

General Motors today announced four separate ones affecting eight different pickup trucks and SUVs. In all, 55,000 GMC, Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicles have been recalled. More serious are the hubs that can separate from the transmission, two separate reasons for fuel pump failure. That’s for GM Trucks in 2023.

What models do these GM recalls affect?

2019 Chevrolet Silverado HD – GM

The 2023 GM C1 platform models, the Cadillac XT5, GMC Acadia, Chevy Blazer, and Chevy Traverse SUVs have an axle separation issue. During transmission assembly, some axles were assembled without retaining rings. These essentially hold the axle in the transmission.

and 2022 GMC Terrain SUVs. According to the fuel pump supplier, it has shipped pumps without sufficient clearances that limit fuel flow.

This can starve the engines for fuel. The problem can also cause the car to not start. Chevy will replace the affected pumps with new ones that are properly specified.

This second fuel pump recall affects 2017 to 2019 HD Trucks. It applies especially to trucks equipped with the diesel engine and double-tank option. The problem is that the rear fuel pump can easily clog. This limits or interrupts the transfer of fuel to the front fuel tank. Denso L5P HP4 fuel pumps.

Some reports indicate that the back tanks are collapsing due to this problem. This can result in a host of problems including inaccurate or erratic fuel gauge readings, engines that hesitate, check engine light warning, or an inability to start trucks. The companies involved will replace the affected fuel pumps free of charge.

Notifications go off to owners in mid-March. If owners of these affected vehicles have questions, they can call. They may also contact the teams involved directly, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall number is N222390180 or N222393410 for C1 models and N222372310 for GMC Terrain models.
