Introduced an all-new concept car at CES. The 2024 Ram Revolution EV is larger than life in any way. It rides on 35-inch tires, features two electric motors, and a pickup truck bed. The sheer number of seats might make Ram fans wonder if this is a proper pickup truck or some kind of SUV with an attached bed. The truth is, the Ram Revolution has a full-size truck bed and is very much a pickup truck; The third row of seats is just a pair of fold-out jump seats that can do double duty in the bed backwards.
The 2024 Ram Revolution EV is a full-frame pickup truck
Ram built its Revolution concept car on a full-frame electric chassis. The STLA-F chassis was created by Ram’s parent company, Ram.
Includes complete truck body. It also has a large battery pack tucked between the frame rails. Finally, there are two electric motors, one on each axle, attached to the frame.
The Ram EV is definitely revolutionary. It replaces the current Ram’s solid axle with independent rear suspension. Of course it also dumps the internal combustion engine in favor of electric motors. But despite these changes, it’s by definition a full-frame truck.
The Ram 1500 Revolution concept car had three rows of seats
The Ram 1500 Revolution demo has a unique cabin. First, the relatively small size of its electric motors allowed the Ram to move the firewall four inches further forward than in the current internal combustion truck. The result is a cavernous cab with a third row of seats.
However, the Ram Revolution concept only has two seats up front, two bucket seats in the second row, and two jump seats in the third row. This doesn’t give the concept car any more seating than an older Ram with front and rear bench seats.
Interestingly, the Ram Concept’s seats all connect to a rail system that runs the length of the vehicle. These rails go from the front box () under the hood of the truck, all the way to the tailgate at the back of the bed. One of the advantages of this system is that you can tie the load into the cab. Another benefit is that you can slide the folding jump seats into the bed and tailgate in complete comfort.
Ram plans to sell an electric truck for 2024
Stellantis is positioning itself as a leader in electric vehicles. For this reason, Ram plans to offer an electric truck by 2024. We’ll just have to wait and see how this production truck will be like or unlike the current Revolution concept.
The Ram 1500 Revolution is unlike any vehicle on the road. This is due in part to its powertrain but also to its unique features. Revolution proves that electric pickup trucks may be able to provide SUV seating while maintaining truck-like capabilities.
