Ford Recalls Another 1.3 Million Models, This Time for Failing Brakes

Nearly 1.3 million Ford and Lincoln models may have defective brake lines, according to an NHTSA report released Friday. The recall affects both 2013-2018 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ models, and is most recent on vehicles dating back to 2021.

Both models affected by the latest Ford may have problems with leaking brake hoses. If left unchecked, these leaks can lead to brake failure, causing safety concerns. While brake hoses are a wear item, hoses in this condition can suddenly rupture. Sudden loss of brake fluid will result in longer stopping distances. To date, Ford has reported only one accident caused by faulty brakes, and no injuries have been reported.

While some problems are normal, problems like cracked axles, failed brake lines, and fire hazards are massive safety issues that plague some of Ford’s best sellers. Its owners have dealt with three recalls in the past year. Its owners have two major withdrawals to worry about. And those who own Ford Escape and Bronco Sport models have a pair of safety recalls to contend with.

Even the brand’s newer models have been recalled to dealers again, with both the Maverick and Mach-E facing potential safety risks.

Why are there so many issues at Ford?

It’s hard to say exactly what affects Ford’s production. The issues are wide-ranging, affecting models coming from many different manufacturers, and covering everything from powertrain issues to build quality and electrical components.

It can be said that Dearborn, MI’s automaker is doing well to tackle its problems head-on. On the other hand, owners won’t put up with too many interruptions before brand loyalty goes out the window.

One thing is for sure though, Ford has a quality control problem that needs addressing, and fast.
