Having decided to sell his old Ranger here in the States, it looks like American consumers will finally get their hands on a new Blue Oval midsize truck. is coming, and it will likely mean a lot of change for this pickup. And for Ford, hopefully, it will renew some interest in the model.
When will the new Ford Ranger be released?
Ford hasn’t announced an exact launch date for its new midsize sedan, but it’s expected to arrive in 2023. The 2024 Ranger is long overdue, so once orders open, it may not stay open for that long. Current rumors point to a rally in April.
It is slated to come with a twin-turbo V6 engine in the global market.
In the US, the Raptor version of the Ranger is expected to feature the same engine. Accordingly, it is likely to produce 392 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
2024 Ranger is coming
It’s not here yet, but it’s coming. It will remain a midsize truck, below the Ford F-150 and above the Maverick. In terms of the new interior, there will likely be some larger touchscreen options. It was rumored to have a 12.0-inch touchscreen, much like what’s on the Mustang Mach-E.
As it is, the 2023 Ranger can tow 1,905 pounds and tow up to 7,500 pounds. In order to make the new Ford Ranger more competitive with things like the Chevy Colorado, it’s possible that Blue Oval could improve those numbers to allow for more capability.
In terms of pricing, things are still not very clear. Ford has yet to announce details of this midsize truck, at least for the US market.
Will there be a Ranger hybrid?
It’s no secret that Ford is willing to offer both hybrid and electric trucks. The Ford Maverick comes with a standard hybrid engine, and the F-150 Lightning is an all-electric truck. At launch, the 2024 Ranger is not expected to have a hybrid drivetrain. But this could certainly change in the coming years.
The Ford Ranger hybrid will help this midsize truck run more efficiently. And Maverick has definitely proven that people are willing to spend money on a pickup truck with a hybrid powertrain.
One of the hopes I had for the 2024 Ranger was to get the manual transmission offered in the global market. But the probability of this happening is zero to none. The only new midsize trucks you can get with a manual are the Toyota Tacoma and Jeep Gladiator. And who knows how long this will be the case.
