The second generation Ridgeline has been around since 2016. That means this midsize truck has been in the works for seven years. With a new Honda Pilot here, it only makes sense that it’s on the horizon. Some rumors point to the arrival of this new mid-size truck for the 2025 model year.
Is there a third generation of Honda Ridgeline cars?
The Honda midsize is currently in its second generation. This model debuted in 2016 for the 2017 model year and has remained largely unchanged since then. Although it is not the most popular truck among consumers, it still garners praise from major publications.
In fact it shares its platform with Ridgeline. This car is now in its fourth generation. Options such as the Trailsport model helped prove this vehicle is ready for off-road action. All in all, people seem to be enjoying what Honda has done with the Pilot.
The third generation Ridgeline is likely to follow in the pilot’s footsteps. In doing so, it will follow that is more in line with Honda’s current design language
The Ridgeline isn’t a popular mid-size truck
When you compare the Honda Ridgeline to other midsize truck competitors, it seems like a real loser. It doesn’t even sell half as many cars as the Toyota Tacoma. But, with the introduction of the Hyundai Santa Cruz and Ford Maverick, perhaps consumers are realizing that a unibody truck can be just as practical.
The problem is, the Ridgeline isn’t priced like the Santa Cruz or Maverick. Instead of being priced like an economy car, the Ridgeline is well over the top. And that might be why people don’t take it seriously. And for about the same cost, you can get something like a Nissan Frontier.
Another problem might be the lack of true off-road trim. Sure, you can modify the Ridgeline to be an off-road truck, and even in stock form it can do some light road work. If it adds Honda to the lineup, it may have the potential to breathe more life into this model.
In the video above, you can see that the Honda Pilot Trailsport is very capable. This package adds things like snowboards and other rugged goodies. Sure, the brand could do the same for Ridgeline. It just makes sense.
Will there be a third-generation Ridgeline?
According to , people were already making up their own pictures of what Honda’s all-new line could look like. But no details have been revealed by Honda yet.
With the right changes, the 2025 Ridgeline (or whatever the third-generation model is) can finally feature the Honda truck that consumers are actually spending their money on.
