Ram has teased an exciting new electric truck for early 2023: the “Revolution.” It has rear-hinging rear doors, third-row jump seats, and allows you to combine cab and bed storage in a massive (18-square-foot) load floor.

At EV Day, Ram claimed it’s using cutting-edge solid-state battery technology to target a range of 500 miles — for the second generation of its electric truck. So what about the first generation?

Ram also raised the “technology”. Ram brand CEO Mike Koval Jr. has since confirmed that they are indeed working on a range extender. This is basically a gasoline generator that can keep your truck’s batteries charged and extend its range indefinitely – as long as you keep fueling it.

Why use internal combustion to drive an electric motor? Well, the gas engine can spin at optimum RPM and possibly get twice the mpg of a straight-line gas truck. You also have an incredible amount of electric torque from zero rpm, which makes it a formidable design while towing or off-road. This is why virtually every diesel locomotive uses this generator-to-electric motor configuration. correct, !
