The plumbing company folks started with a complete Ranger 6×6, which is a good, cheap starting point. Its hull design is very simple, and capable of moving in excess of 40 mph in stock form. Both front and center suspension are independent, with a swing arm to the rear wheels.

minitruck. Sounds very easy, right? Well, as with any attempt to mix and match, there are always hitches and surprises. First, the body had to be stiffened as much of its frame was removed to fit the Polaris chassis.

The coilover shocks needed new mounting points, which necessitated brackets. With CAD and a programmed plasma cutter arrangement, these DIYers make it look easy. Brackets are designed to allow many attachment points to play with once they’ve come to this whole thing.

Are you inspiring?

The biggest problem I had with the project was the rack and pinion routing. After a series of trial and error models, they were able to get everything to work. It has a narrower turning circle than in the original.

The project isn’t finished, but the video gives you a good idea of what the guys ran into and solved. We look forward to seeing what the project looks like when it’s completed, and hopefully it will inspire other DIYers to do something similar, or even better.
