You’ll Never Get a GMC Hummer EV

Back in July, about GMC’s plan to ramp up production of its highly anticipated electric SUV. At the time, the truck maker was making 12 a day. This seemed like a good idea, you know, to get it right and make sure there weren’t any quality errors. We’re now eight months into that, and GMC has boosted its production to…12 Hammers a day.

That’s right, a production Hummer is on the market, according to The Wall Street Journal. There are a lot of questions we have about why this happens. More urgent is what GMC is telling its 90,000 Reservation holders. Because based on our calculations, at the current pace of production, those reservations will take 25 years to meet.

, and at that time only 1,000 had found their way to buyers. If faced with the same spiral pace as the Hummer, there is no way that GM can achieve its big electric future plans. Neither with Hummer nor Lyriq.

Keep in mind that the Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC EV truck are slated to go on sale by 2025. They’re both based on the Hummer, which suggests there could be more.

Back to the Hummer, the other worrying news is that many are sitting at dealerships under a sales freeze. Since October, GM has been addressing water leaks inside battery packs. GMC says the Hummer’s slow production lap will magically hit speed in the second half of this year.

We hope so, as GM counts on all future products with billions of dollars spent on development, new plants, and investigations into the next phase of electrification other than lithium-ion batteries, not to undermine its reputation.
