Short video sharing app TikTok was the most downloaded app worldwide in the first three months of 2022, according to a report by sensor tower.
According to Store Intelligence Data’s Q1 2022 report, TikTok was downloaded over 175 million times from January 1 through March 31, 2022.
TikTok has overtaken Instagram as the most downloaded app.
Since 2018, no app has been downloaded more than TikTok, which now has over 3.5 billion downloads ever.
This makes it the fifth app to reach this milestone not first under the Meta umbrella.
Within the US, TikTok has been the top app every quarter since the start of 2021.
In the first quarter of 2022, TikTok saw 11% growth QoQ in Asia. This was one of the 59 Chinese apps have been banned by the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on National Security Issues in June 2020.
Sensor Tower scores are based on a per user basis, which means that only one download is counted per Apple or Google account.
Android app installs include downloads from the Google Play Store only, not from any third party Android stores.
With that in mind, here’s a look at the most downloaded apps during the first three months of 2022.

Meta Properties has three of the top five sites
Meta Platforms, formerly Facebook, Inc. , the second, third, and fourth most downloaded apps for the first quarter.
Instagram has been knocked out of the top spot, but it still has over 150 million downloads.
Facebook came in third, also with more than 150 million, and the Meta messaging platform, WhatsApp, ranked fourth with 125 million downloads.
Multi-platform messaging service Telegram rounds out the top five, with over 100 million downloads.
Meta Messenger was also in the top ten, ranking at number eight with over 75 million downloads.
Instagram pins are down 7%.
According to Sensor Tower’s findings, Instagram installs were down 7% quarter-over-quarter.
However, it hit an all-time high in the fourth quarter of 2021 and is still the app’s second-best quarter since 2014.
Instagram is also one of the only apps to surpass TikTok downloads in specific categories, such as Google Play Worldwide downloads and overall downloads in Asia.
