The Cheaper 2023 Tesla Model Y Is Still Pretty Expensive

Tesla is finally delivering on its promise to deliver a more affordable Model Y model. This means more people can switch from gas to electric. However, there’s a catch. It’s still quite expensive and hard to get hold of.

How much does the 2023 Tesla Model Y cost?

2023 kicks off at $61,990. That compares to $65,990 for the 2022 model. It also includes AWD and the dua engine to provide 279 miles of range on a single charge.

this model is not yet available to everyone.

Only Tesla employees and certain customers who ordered Model Y can access this version in the configurator. It seems to exist only as source code at the moment. So is it a bug? Or is Tesla preparing to launch a cheaper version of the 2023 Model Y?

Also, when it comes to affordability, the Model Y is cheaper in other countries. A cheaper model with less range and rear-wheel drive is available in other countries. This model was only sold briefly in North America.

In addition, eligibility for electric vehicle tax credits is changing. Model Y may need to make some adjustments to be eligible for the $7,500 federal credit.

Is the 2023 Model Y worth buying?

Yes, the 2023 is worth buying, even if cheaper models are not available. While $65,990 is a steep price, at least it comes with AWD and 330 miles of range. It has fast acceleration, is roomy, and has a robust charging network.

But fully loaded options like the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 come in at $52,600 or less. So what are you paying extra for?

Sure, the Model Y can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, but the Hyundai Ioniq 5 gets there in 4.7 seconds with comparable comfort and space. Without offering the more affordable standard range Model Y, it may not be able to keep up.

The model is comfortable enough, but the bumps can send rattles through the cabin. The Ioniq 5 could provide a smoother experience. Still, the Model Y has a quiet, peaceful interior to enjoy.

Also, while the huge touchscreen is attractive, it’s a bit finicky. If it breaks down, you lose most control of the vehicle. Some drivers may prefer more physical controls instead of touchscreen controls.

What are the cons of the Model Y?

Difficulties with smartphone integration. Connecting your phone via Bluetooth seems a little less than rivals with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also, the Google-based infotainment system is a bit unpredictable.

The rear window is quite small and limits visibility to the rear. The large windshield pillars at the front can also block the view.

Voice commands aren’t very responsive or effective. Also, the security systems get confused and confuse cars parked on the quay for the vehicle lanes. Sometimes the Model Y can follow other vehicles too closely, which is dangerous.

The Model Y is the best-selling option in its class, but it was one of the only options. Now that the segment is growing and rivals are offering similar services with fewer bugs, Tesla may need to make the Model Y more affordable.
