When picking some of the best used SUVs for under $30,000, I’ve found plenty of positives to report with the 2016 Nissan Murano. The Nissan Murano is equipped with a spacious, upscale interior and comfortable seating. USB ports, a Bose audio system, and plenty of charging space make the 2016 Murano a good choice. The 2016 Murano features antilock brakes, traction control and plenty of airbags to keep everyone safe. In addition, (IIHS) gave the SUV a top score of “good” in most crash-resistance tests.

When Edmunds reviewed the 2014 Toyota Highlander, there wasn’t much to complain about in the experts. Some of the highlights include a quiet ride, upscale interior, and seating for up to eight passengers. As for the 2014 SUV, it has a lot of tech you might come up with and expect. Edmunds says Toyota has improved the 2014 Highlander with an improved interior and smooth transmission. Toyota included traction and stability control, antilock brakes, and more airbags. IIHS gave the 2014 Toyota Highlander one of the best used SUVs under $30,000 (even if the top trims might be over budget).

List price range: $16895 – $32998

Don’t lose sight of the well-equipped, budget-friendly Lexus RX 350

While the 2012 Lexus RX 350 is considered a luxury car, it is still one of the best used SUVs for under $30,000. As expected, the RX 350 offers a refined cabin and vehicle ride. Edmunds says it has “active acceleration” and comfortable seating for five. Lexus makes reliable luxury SUVs, which people have come to expect from the brand. Additional airbags, disc brakes, and traction control are all standard. Edmunds suggests a pre-collision system with adaptive cruise control if you can find it. The NHTSA gave it an overall safety rating of four stars.

List price range: $15295 – $24,590

Skip the Dodge Journey SUV, if you can

The 2016 Dodge Journey isn’t a bad car per se, but the similarly priced SUV offers more. Edmunds highlights available third-row seating, practical storage solutions, and low prices. Some of its weaknesses include slow acceleration, mediocre fuel economy, and a lack of standard safety features. Dodge included antilock disc brakes, traction control, and airbags. IIHS gave the 2016 flight some ‘good’ grades, but it also got some ‘poor’ grades. Overall, this is not one of the best used SUVs under $30,000.

List price range: $9,995 – $21,998

Don’t get too caught up in the details when looking for a used SUV. Try to pick two or three important features and stick to them. Safety features, fuel economy and a price tag under $30,000 will give buyers plenty to choose from. Expand your search beyond your immediate area if you can’t find something on a budget. An agent out of town or in another area may offer a better deal.
