Ram, Chevy and Ford All Have New 2023 Heavy Duty Trucks: What We Know
Heavy-duty machines are compact machines that usually don’t get much attention. But not this year. All three major manufacturers of large pickup trucks are making major improvements in their biggest and hardest-to-work. Although not all specs have been released, these drag and drop monsters are getting the biggest upgrades they’ve seen in a long time.
What will we see in the new crop of Ram 2500 and 3500, new Silverado HD, and Ford Super Duty trucks?
. 350 or 3500 trucks can carry over 5,000 lbs. Payload and towing are two different things, but you need more load capacity for a heavier trailer.
Ram trucks get a style change
, 2500 and 3500, get a mild styling update with an available hood that mimics the TRX monster truck. The trucks are also getting new headlights, a new digital rearview mirror. These big trucks are built for towing, so it makes sense that they get a technically improved towing upgrade, too. The new truck will have a trailer tow app (for screen inside the truck) with multiple views, as well as a behind-the-trailer view and a blind spot view.
Ram engines should remain the same year. Ram should be proud of the Cummins 6.7-liter engine that produces 1,075 lb-ft of torque, but Ford says the new Power Stroke will get a boost of more than 1,050 lb-ft. With this engine, the Ram can tow up to 37,090 pounds.
Chevy HD gets new style, keeps Duramax
While the new Ford and Ram trucks will be here for model year 2023, Chevy is preparing its trucks for 2024. For 2023, an improved Allison 10-speed transmission is standard on all trucks. The new transmission allows the truck’s gross weight to be increased by 2,000 pounds, from 24,000 to 26,000 pounds with the diesel. And speaking of that diesel, the 2024 Silverado HD will continue to offer this engine, but it’s been boosted with more power with 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque.
Like the RAM, it stays on the same frame, but it will get a new grille, headlights, and more. It also doesn’t have C-shaped LEDs, new tow hooks, and new colors.
Ford Super Duty trucks all new
While Ram and Chevy have just updated their trucks, the Ford F-250 and F-350 are all-new for 2023. The new trucks are a new generation of Ford’s Super Duty trucks. Ford made an important announcement about the trucks this week, sharing a lot, but not all of the technical specs. Instead, Ford simply whetted our appetite for more information by saying that its engines will be more powerful, even the Power Stroke V8 diesel.
But the new trucks get a lot of stuff to help these big monsters tow. The trucks get onboard scales to help you level your cargo, a 360-degree trailer cam system, and the intelligent Pro Trailer Hitch Assist system that automatically supports the truck up to the trailer hitch. The trucks now come with 5G technology built in, so you can get updates over the air and the hotspot can operate up to 10 devices. We also can’t wait to see the new Tremor version of the F-250, and try out the new standard 4×4 system on XLT and higher versions.
