The Third Generation Honda Ridgeline Could Finally Make It Popular

The Ridgeline has always been the brand’s attempt at a pickup truck. Although it came with things like a standard V6 engine, a long list of features, and a comfortable ride, it wasn’t really able to win over consumers looking for a truck. But, with the introduction of the all-new Honda Pilot, that may change. Because the midsize truck shares much of its DNA with Honda’s three-row SUV.

Will Honda update the Ridgeline?

The second generation Ridgeline has arrived for the 2017 model year, and with a new Honda Pilot here, it only makes sense that Honda would give a legitimate update to its truck. He has a lot to like about it. It comes with a standard 3.5-liter V6 engine, which is more in line with Honda’s current design language.

I feel the history. Especially with the Trailsport model. This trim gives the Honda SUV some good off-road capability. And that’s something the second-generation Ridgeline lacks.

For example, if Honda gave the midsize truck skid plates and maybe a factory lift, it’s easy to see the Ridgeline becoming more popular. Especially if it keeps its standard V6 engine and all-wheel drive.

Consumers don’t like the Honda truck

In terms of sales, the Honda Ridgeline hasn’t done all that well. It’s getting praise from places like , but that hasn’t translated into interest from consumers. The Ridgeline is more expensive than other midsize trucks on the market. But at the same time she is not capable. Plus, people seem to enjoy a truck that actually looks like a truck.

2023 Honda Ridgeline | Honda

Because Honda’s mid-size pickup rides on a unibody platform, driving one feels more like a car or SUV than a truck. The good news is that every second-generation Ridgeline comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine. It generates 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. The only other midsize truck that comes with a standard V6 engine is the 2023 Nissan Frontier.

Will there be a third generation Ridgeline?

It’s hard to say if Honda had real plans to bring it into its third generation. But, with an updated beta already here, possibly by 2025, that’s something we’ll see. Rumors have been circulating that the Honda truck could be getting a hybrid engine. But since the Pilot retains a traditional V6, it’s likely the new Ridgeline will do the same.

Perhaps the best change for this pickup truck is the introduction of the Trailsport model. In the video above, you can see that the Honda Pilot Trailsport is legally capable. And after all, isn’t that what people want from a pickup truck?

Of course, until Honda confirms what’s going on with the Ridgeline, this is just speculation. But, the third generation Ridgeline could be just what this truck needs to finally woo shoppers.
