The 2023 Ram 1500 excels in electric trucks
2023 isn’t electric yet. While the 2024 1500 BEV makes its debut this week, it could beat the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, and GMC Hummer EV. However, the gas-powered model is currently squeezing the Fortress.
It looks a little different. The Ram 1500 ranks as the best full-size truck money can buy again.
On Consumer Reports’ list, the gas-powered Ram is the only pickup truck to beat the Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T. The 2023 Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan, Chevy Silverado, and Ford F-150 scored lower.
Why is Ram superior to electric trucks?
Consumer Reports seems to have more confidence in 2023 because it has a higher predicted reliability rating than the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning and 2023 Rivian R1T. The expected score is based on problems reported in previous model years.
But the F-150 Lightning and the R1T are still very new and need advancement. Results for these electric trucks may be based on similar models in the lineup. Both are expected to have a below average rating.
The F-150 Lightning is based on the regular F-150 and Mustang Mach-E. The R1T score depends on the company being a startup. Also, the 2022 model has seen three recalls so far.
The Ram 1500 has a slightly above average reliability rating. The Tundra, F-150, Silverado, Titan, and Sierra score lower.
With proper care and maintenance, a Ram 1500 truck can make it between 200,000 and 250,000 miles. It is not uncommon for these trucks to last 300,000 miles with about 17 years of service on the road.
The Ram 1500 also has an edge in terms of ride quality and value. While electric competitors may be faster, smoother, and quieter, the Ram 1500 is by far the most comfortable gas-powered truck around.
It gets a smooth ride, comfortable seats and a quieter cabin at a lower price. It starts at $37,140, the R1T starts at about $74,075, and the F-150 Lightning rings at $55,974.
Will the Ram EV be the ultimate electric truck?
The 2023 Ram 1500 can help continue on its path to becoming the top-ranked truck. Rumor has it that it could provide 500 miles of range, which could outperform the R1T and F-150 Lightning.
