When I selected the Honda CR-V as one of its best budget SUVs of 2017, there were several good reasons. The CR-V’s interior is surprisingly roomy and comfortable for a small SUV, with 75.8 cubic feet of cargo space. It handles well and has thoughtful storage areas to add to the features. Honda redesigned the CR-V in 2017, making it even better while still fitting many budgets.

Toyota’s Highlander is one of the best SUVs of 2017 for all budgets

The 2017 Toyota Highlander is one of the best all-around SUVs, but it falls into the midsize category. Edmunds says it’s just the right size for many families and offers a third row. While the third row isn’t the biggest option out there, it’s suitable for most kids.

Toyota included a four-cylinder engine for the base LE trim, but upgrading to the V6 offers better fuel economy. Fuel economy is 22 combined with the base and 23 mpg combined with the V6. Some of the best safety systems are Forward Collision Warning with Auto-Brake, Lane Departure Alert and Steering Assist. Toyota also included driver’s knee and passenger cushion airbags for added protection.
