New Corvette Hybrid Debuts Next Week With a ‘Stealth Mode’ So Quiet, You Won’t Hear It Coming

The Chevrolet Corvette platform promises to include a hybrid option in addition to the already revolutionary mid-engine application. The “E-Ray,” as the industry already knows it, will be the first gas-electric hybrid Corvette in the brand’s history. Even better, the new model will debut on January 17th and reveal cool new features like Stealth Mode.

Is the Corvette C8 a hybrid?

The latest Chevrolet Corvette C8 isn’t a hybrid, but the automaker will add a hybrid Corvette to the lineup in 2023. The E-Ray will be the first-ever gas-electric Corvette hybrid, and joins the high-speed Stingray and Z06 in model offerings.

The new 2023 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray will be a twin-engine application with two engines driving the front wheels, making it the first Corvette ever. What’s more, the upcoming E-Ray will marry its twin-motor electric system with the C8 Stingray’s 6.2-liter LT1 V8. Considering that the C8 Stingray already makes 490 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, that’s a lot to expect.

Even better, E-Ray says it will be available in different trim levels, just like the Stingray. For example, both models will offer the entry-level 1LT trim. In addition to the 1LT, Corvette will offer luxury 2LT and 3LT options. Also, for fans of Bowling Green’s supercharged option, the Z06’s 5.5L flat crank delivers world class performance. However, one of the Corvette Hybrid’s wildest features is its new stealth mode, which is a brash antithesis of the Z06.

What is stealth mode?

The new Corvette E-Ray Hybrid will feature a stealth mode. The function keeps the Chevrolet model in electric mode, quieting the noisy V8 engine.

Stealth mode on the new Corvette, along with the widebody app, is one of the features Chevrolet teased in a recent video. What’s more, the automaker’s configuration tool leaked the same E-Ray before the latest video. Nevertheless, Chevrolet is excited to unveil its high-performance hybrid next week, claiming that “after 70 years, we offer one like no other.”

Does Corvette have a hybrid now?

The Corvette’s first hybrid debuted earlier this year. To date, no generation of Chevrolet Corvette has hosted an alternative energy model. Instead, the vast majority of Corvettes packed gas-powered V8 engines. Moreover, the latest is the model’s first high-revving flat-top V8 option.

How much does the Corvette E-Ray cost?

The new Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray will launch on January 17th and start at around $70,000. This price reflects the entry-level E-Ray 1LT trim, which is the lowest-trimmed hybrid model.

At higher trims, starting costs go up. For example, Car and Driver estimates that the 2LT will start at around $78,000. Furthermore, the range-topping 3LT will likely command a starting price of around $83,000, making it the most expensive non-Z06 variant in the model stable. However, it will probably cost about $4,000 more than the conventional Stingray’s 6.2-liter V8 in the trim.
