When I learned that I would be testing the 2022 LX600 for an entire week, I got super excited. We don’t have the 300-series Land Cruiser here in the US, so the LX600 is next best. But I tried the Ultra Luxury version. A full-size six-figure SUV that seats just four. And along with the folks at MotorTrend, I was a little confused by that.
Is the LX600 available in the US?
The 2022 Lexus LX600 is available in the United States. And it’s really the only way to get a new Toyota Land Cruiser. The toughness and capability of a Land Cruiser, but given the Lexus treatment. And that means luxury, luxury and more luxury.
While this Lexus SUV is new for 2022, it does feel slightly dated. Not in terms of luxury and amenities, but in the fact that it has the same wheelbase as it did in 1995.
In the case of the LX600 Ultra Luxury, I found myself in an extremely comfortable cabin and commanding seating position. But it was clear that the Ultra Luxury is not built for the driver but for the rear occupants.
The 2022 Lexus LX600 is for a specific person
With its high price, it’s not an SUV for the average consumer. Sure, Toyota’s reliability is perceived to you, but it won’t be cheap. Now, Lexus has pretty solid resale value. And you get the powerful twin-turbo V6 engine found in other models like the Toyota Tundra.
On the highway I found that I drove comfortably and smoothly. There was no problem catching up and passing people was a breeze. Plus, those driver-assist features help on a long road trip like the one I took in western Kansas.
My only issue with this luxury SUV was simply the trim level I sampled. As an automotive journalist, I certainly don’t get chauffeured around. So while the rear captain’s chair with full reclining functionality and a massage function, they were lost on me. In fact, the front seats don’t even massage. If you needed more indicators of what the LX600 Ultra Luxury is all about.
Is the Lexus LX600 a seven-seater?
The seats for four to eight passengers, depending on which configuration you get. You can get this SUV with three rows of seats, three rows with second-row captain’s chairs, or just four seats.
Much like its Toyota sibling, the LX600 offers some legitimate capabilities. But it’s unclear who will drive a six-figure full-size SUV into the wild. If anyone off-roads a Lexus LX600, I’d love to see it.
