Ford F-150 Lightning battery recall
Recently discontinued sale due to unknown battery issue. Some models were catching flames after going through the production line.
We shared that the trucks were assembled with incorrectly produced battery cells. The cells were built over a four-week period at the Georgia factory from SK on supplier.
It is unclear how many prototypes are being kept in the production plant due to this defect. But at least it wasn’t delivered before this problem was discovered.
Ford applies quality procedures to vehicles complete with batteries produced during the four-week period that was suspended.
Ford has not shared the causes of the fires or possible repair. This information can be released once the official recall is issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
What to do if your F-150 Lightning has a battery problem
If you are at risk, you will be notified by mail by Ford. But you can also enter the 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA website to see if your truck is under a recall. But you may have to wait for the official notice to be issued.
The repair involves taking the F-150 Lightning to a local dealership for service. Battery packs will be replaced without charge. Make sure you skip waiting by scheduling your service as soon as possible.
At this time, Ford is not aware of any injuries or accidents related to the problem. Ford also shared that you can continue driving and charging your truck as normal.
If your truck is not included in this recall, we recommend keeping an eye on things. Initially, the fire was only related to one truck. Ford claimed that the cars already delivered were in good condition. The problem could still get bigger.
How many F-150 Lightning recalls are there?
This recall puts the total at 10. Nine other recalls are related to loose bolts in the transmission leading to rolling, failed windshield wipers, flashing parking lights, improper airbag deployment, loose wheel nuts, broken driveshaft and disconnected steering column wires , and trailer brake failure.
On the plus side, Ford has already rectified the previous problems. However, 10 withdrawals is a bit unsettling. Some problems, such as shaft failure or wheel separation, are more of a concern than others.
