Ford Finally Catches up With Chevy’s Truck Features – Feel the Irony
They don’t make them like they used to, and we can be thankful for that. Over time, pickups have become physically larger. Getting into and out of the truck bed used to be very easy, but with and with trucks that are higher off the ground, this becomes a much more difficult task. Fortunately, one Chevy truck feature makes this activity much easier and has been offered for a long time. Finally, we will see something similar on Ford trucks.
Why should Ford adopt any Chevy truck features?
They are the best-selling cars in America. As a leader in the industry, it doesn’t seem practical for Ford to add features found in trucks that don’t sell as well. However, Chevy trucks offer something that makes cargo easier to access, handle, transport, and manage. Adding these features could send Ford truck sales through the roof.
Rear bumper steps are the saving grace in Chevy trucks
For some truck owners, the decision can come down to between a Ford pickup and a Chevy for easier access to bed. One of the most useful Chevy truck features are the rear bumper steps. These have steps cut into the corners of the rear bumper making it easy to climb up and access the cargo in the bed. These steps first appeared on the 2002-2006 Chevy Avalanche and eventually became a standard feature on the Chevy Silverado lineup.
But Ford has a step up for its trucks
It didn’t take long for Ford to make a move for its trucks. The 2009 F-150 models featured a tailgate step, but there is a challenge to this feature. In order to make use of the tailgate drawer on Ford trucks, the gate must be open. Chevy trucks’ rear bumper steps do not require an opening tailgate for use.
Ford is evolving with the new 2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty
Instead of stubbornly holding on to the step that needs to be pulled out of the tailgate and extending it down, Ford is evolving. The Chevy truck has degrees that extend from the rear bumper to include bedside steps for larger trucks, and Ford is doing the same with the newer ones. The new F-Series truck adds a series of steps in the side of the bed and rear bumper. He tells us these steps are now standard equipment on XL to Limited models of the F-250, F-350 and F-450 trucks.
Will Ford keep the tailgate step?
Whether it’s an effort to offer another advantage over Chevy trucks or more convenience, Ford Trucks will continue to include a tailgate step. This feature is standard on the first three grades and an option for lower trim levels of Ford Super Duty trucks.
The new Ford Super Duty Trucks bedside and bumper drawers are found on the driver and passenger sides of the trunk and are large enough for steel-toed work boots.
Will these new steps give Ford trucks a bigger advantage over Chevy trucks? Only time will tell.
