Drivers in Michigan Can’t Stop Scooping up Used Chevy Equinox SUVs

There is no doubt that where you live and the driving conditions you are used to play a key role in the vehicle you own. But a recent study put a magnifying glass on some of these trends through a lens of used car sales sorted by city and state.

If you live in Michigan, you are part of a population of lovers. According to sales figures, Michigan drivers can’t stop picking up used Equinox models. And here’s what could be contributing to such a trend there.

The study evaluated more than 9.8 million used-car sales, spanning five vehicle model years (2017-2021) nationwide. These sales were also broken down by state and metro area. Heavy contenders are not included in this study. But all other models were fair game.

Michigan is selling a lot of used Chevy Equinox models

Based on the , it appears Michigan is selling a lot of used Equinoxes. It is by far the most popular used car statewide. Of all used car transactions that occur in Michigan, 8.3% of them are the Chevy Equinox.

When the study further breaks down Equinox sales to target metropolitan geographies, the Grand Rapids area and Kalamazoo are the hot spots for Equinox sales. Of all used cars sold in the metro area, 5.9% represent Chevy Equinox models.

The , even used, continues to be a very popular SUV nationwide. In fact, it is the most popular used SUV in 2022, holding 2.2% of the nation’s used car sales.

This is up from the 2021 share of 1.8%. It’s actually second as the most popular used car in six other states as well. So, what is driving consumers to choose used Chevy Equinox SUVs at such a high price?

SUVs, in general, continue to be in high demand with their rugged styling, improved cargo, and all-wheel drive capabilities. But the Chevy Equinox tends to be a consumer favorite due to its affordability.

You can still choose your favorite finishes and features without breaking the bank or compromising safety or practicality. Plus, the Equinox is expected to last well over 200,000 miles, which means at least a decade of driving.

The Chevy Equinox was the top-selling SUV in Michigan in 2019. So today’s increase in used car metrics may just represent the resale of all those new Equinox SUVs sold in 2019. Even though higher gas prices could prompting consumers to also find more fuel-efficient used SUV options.

Either way, it’s clear that Michigan drivers can’t get enough of the used Equinox models available, and there will be plenty on the road in the future.

Whether it’s the Equinox’s versatility, its affordability, or its fuel economy, it remains one of the best, and Michiganders seem to love it the most.
