) reported that the transmission oil pump may fail. It leads to a complete loss of power while driving and could increase the risk of injury and an accident.

But Kia fixed this by inspecting the affected models and replacing the transmission if necessary. Kia also updated the transmission control module software.

These repairs were done at no cost to the owners. This is a good and bad sign. While the Sorento had a recall, the issue was resolved quickly. Also, it was for the 2021 and 2022 models, not the 2023 Sorento.

Does the Sorento have a reliable transmission?

Second , they have a reliable transmission. Some of the more common problems include transmission slippages, delayed shifting, bumping into gears, getting stuck in limp mode, and failing to reverse or shift.

Some Kia models may experience erratic gear shifts and random jumps into neutral. The transmission may shift into neutral while the vehicle is in motion, so it may fail to shift into gear or reverse. Typically a Check Engine Light will illuminate when this occurs.

The possible cause of this problem could be related to faulty input or output speed sensors creating misleading solenoid codes. Replacing both sensors is an effective and simple solution.

The Sorento can experience skipped gears and sometimes intermittent hard upshifts. Replacing the transmission fluid sensor or resetting the adaptive learning procedure may help. The Sorento can exhibit erratic shift patterns if it is used by drivers with different habits.
