Even though the IIHS Top Safety Pick criteria changed for this year and require better scores everywhere, the options below still scored high.
Mazda had the most options on Consumer Reports’ list of safest small SUVs
When listing the safest options from Insurance Institute for Highway Safety winners, Mazda had three options in the category. First up is the 2023 Mazda CX-30 in the compact SUV category. It comes with several standard safety features such as forward collision warning, lane departure warning and automatic emergency braking. He gave the CX-30 a Top Safety Pick award for 2023.

Nissan and Subaru had some safe picks on the list
Chauffeurs like its capable nature and spacious interior. Subaru has also made the Outback relatively fuel-efficient, even if the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine isn’t the most powerful option out there. Known for making small but safe SUVs, the 2023 Forester comes with many standard safety systems.
The 2023 Nissan Rogue just came out of a redesign and it has the new look to prove it. A new 1.5-litre engine gets 201bhp and powers the Rogue, while improving fuel economy and engine noise. Nissan has included the previously mentioned driver assistance features such as forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning.
All of these options made the list of safest small SUVs, according to Consumer Reports and IIHS. These are some of the safest new vehicles for 2023, a top priority for many buyers.
