Changes to the YouTube Partner Program

Why does YouTube change the terms and conditions of the Partner Program?

YouTube recently announced several changes that give creators more ways to join the YouTube Partner Program and earn money.

To make these changes possible, YouTube is updating the Partner Program Terms, and all creators must agree to these new terms to stay in the program.

What are the terms of the new YouTube Partner Program?

YouTube offers a modular structure that allows for more flexibility in creating and monetizing across different video formats.

All creators in the YouTube Partner Program will need to accept the Basic Terms, which are the founding terms of the YouTube Partner Program and include things like how creators get paid.

Acceptance of the Basic Terms is a condition for any creator wishing to join the YouTube Partner Programme.

To monetize, content creators must also accept the terms of certain monetization units.

These include:

  • Watch page monetization module: This allows you to earn money from ads on long-form videos and YouTube Premium.
  • Shorts monetization unit: Allows you to earn money from ads that run between short films, short feed, and YouTube Premium.
  • Commercial Product Supplement: Includes fan-funded features like channel memberships and super chats.

Creators can decide to accept all or some of the terms.

If you have accepted these specific terms in the past, you do not need to re-accept them.

Note that even if you’re an existing YouTube Partner Program creator and earn money with ads on long-form videos, you’ll still need to accept the page-view unit to continue earning in this way.
