Consumer Reports Lists the Ford Maverick as One of the Best for 2023

The success of the Maverick proved that not everyone wants a big truck to handle their daily lives. As a compact Blue Oval pickup truck, the Maverick was actually so popular that buying one seems almost impossible. Once available, it was like closing the order books right away. Now, this pickup truck is likely to get some attention; Named one of Consumer Reports’ Top Picks.

How good is the 2023 Ford Maverick?

In terms of being a character, Maverick does a pretty good job. It can tow up to 4,000 pounds, offers some off-road capability in form, and is actually quite affordable. For less than $25,000, you can get a compact pickup truck from one of the most popular truck manufacturers.

It was, in fact, the only truck out of the three Detroiters to make the list. So that’s an impressive feat for a unibody pickup.

You can’t buy the 2023 Maverick

If you’re interested in giving a Ford pickup a try, you’ll probably be in luck. That is unless you are willing to pay a premium on one. Once Blue Oval opened the order books, that brand had to close them. And that is exactly what is needed in this pickup truck.

Seeing success at first was a bit of a surprise. In modern times, people seem to want to choose a large truck, even if it’s not practical for their lifestyle. But then the defector came. It’s a unibody truck, has a standard hybrid powertrain, and shares its platform with the Bronco Sport. Apparently, Ford got this car right.

Is Ford’s pickup truck getting more expensive?

Unfortunately, since its introduction, the Maverick has received some price hikes. The base XL model now costs about $22,000. At the same time, the 2.0-liter EcoBoost no longer charges extra. So if you don’t want a hybrid truck, you don’t have to pay more anymore. Although it appears that the hybrid powertrain is the better choice for consumers.

It is unclear if these types of price hikes will continue. But hopefully they will remain somewhat tame. One of the biggest perks of the 2023 Maverick is its low start-up cost. Instead of having to pay over 30 grand for a truck, you can get it for the cost of an economy car. And at least in my opinion, this is a very remarkable fact.

But the gray market and the status of agents told a different story. Maverick was subject to price hikes along with inventory shortages. So if you want to get one today, you probably won’t be paying MSRP.
