When it was announced that it would be making an electric truck, it was a sign of another major pickup maker embracing electric vehicle technology. The concept revealed earlier this year appears to be somewhat innovative and revolutionary. But is it actually a game-changer? The production model is pretty poor compared to what the industry seems to have expected.
What is a Ram 1500 REV?
The Ram 1500 REV is the brand’s take on an electric pickup. In 2021, Ram CEO Mike Koval confirmed that there will be a truck. Since then, people have been wondering what the final product will look like.
We know quite a bit. And we also know what it looks like. Depending on where you’re at on the subject, it might look pretty cool. In fact, I think it looks a lot like a regular ICE truck.
Sure, it’s rare that a production vehicle ends up being the same as a concept vehicle. But the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV concept seemed like a game-changer. It’s a shame that the 1500 REV we’ll see on the road looks so much like a regular pickup truck.
The electric Ram truck feels like a letdown
Now, I’m excited to see an electric truck from Ram. These vehicles hold a lot of promise in being practical and eliminating the inefficiencies typically found in traditional pickups. But the Ram 1500 REV ditched some of what we saw in the concept.
The carriage doors, electric glass roof, and proportions may not have been in production. What it looks like it will be, is Midget. A mid-door van is nothing new; It was featured in Pickups from the Past. Essentially, it allows you to extend your truck bed into the cabin. Apparently this isn’t something we’ll see on a production model.
The Ram 1500 REV is expected to follow the lead of other Ram trucks. That means versions with premium materials and a comfortable ride. But this isn’t necessarily a groundbreaking thing; We’ve seen that for quite some time with this brand.
Is the Ram 1500 REV better light than the Ford F-150?
This is a question that we cannot necessarily answer yet. Ram hasn’t released enough details about its electric pickup’s power, range, or any other details. We always knew Ram would be it, with other brands arriving first.
But hopefully, this Ram truck has what it takes to take on the Ford F-150’s light. It sure would be a shame if it didn’t live up to the competition, especially since it seems like a lot of its truly innovative features have been removed.
Koval had promised that the electric Ram would have 500 miles of range, according to; He also stated that he would “surpass” the competition. Only time will tell if that will happen.
