The 2023 Subaru WRX Earned a Highly Coveted Safety Award The WRX has been completely redesigned for 2022. It now rides on a new platform, has a larger, more powerful engine, and has a new look. The new WRX came with a host of safety features, including some driver assistance features, but only the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) granted it. Fortunately, for 2023, Subaru made the WRX even safer, and IIHS awarded it an even higher honor.

After the 2022 WRX was awarded a “Best Safety Pick” award last year, Subaru tackled the one major area it was lacking – the headlights. According to, “The weak point of the previous model was that the standard halogen headlights were rated poorly.”
The WRX’s headlights were rated “Acceptable” and the optional LED lights were rated “Good.”
But the improvements didn’t stop there. Subaru also modified the child link access, improving the score in that area from “acceptable” to “good +”. In addition, the Subaru WRX 2023 scored well in all crash tests, including the front crash prevention test. All of these improvements resulted in the WRX 2023 receiving the prestigious “Top Safety Pick+” award.

The Subaru WRX 2023 isn’t the only compact sports car to win a Top Safety Pick+ award. Other cars in the same class that it has won include Honda Civic (and Civic C), Subaru BRZ, and Toyota GR86.
Hyundai Elantra N and Volkswagen GTI won Best Safety Pick. However, they could make changes in the future to improve their results as well.

Aside from minor changes to the safety equipment, it doesn’t look like the Subaru WRX 2023 will see any other major changes. Note that it is no longer part of the lineup, but WRX will continue to compete with other sports compacts in its class.
However, the WRX is no longer the only car in its class that offers all-wheel drive. The Mazda3 Turbo and Volkswagen Golf R both come with this feature. However, the WRX offers a little more value with its large new infotainment screen, driver assistance features, and a choice of manual transmission or CVT transmission.
We hope enthusiasts will continue to opt for the manual transmission, as this is the best way to enjoy the Subaru WRX 2023 and all its turbocharged power. Of course, whichever transmission they choose, buyers will at least know that the car is safe and has the prestigious award to prove it.
