Consumer Reports recently released its roundup of the 10 least satisfying vehicles of 2023. At the bottom of the list is the Volkswagen Cross Sport. Only 38% of owners said they would buy this model again. What happened?

CR asked owners to rate their overall satisfaction with the SUV on a scale from zero to 100. They got an average overall score and a medium to low predicted reliability rating. Respondents also answered questions about other aspects of vehicle ownership, such as comfort level, driving experience, gas mileage, and reliability.

Additionally, owners may be asked how satisfied they are with the vehicle’s acceleration, braking, and handling. Some questions concern the quality of the vehicle’s interior and the infotainment system. Participants may also be asked what problems they had with the car and how the problem was resolved.

Once Consumer Reports receives the responses, they are analyzed to determine the overall satisfaction rating for each model. The rating is a composite of many factors, including the percentage of owners who were very satisfied with their vehicle, the average overall satisfaction score, and the percentage of owners who would buy the vehicle again.
