Ever since its introduction, the Mustang Mach E has been controversial. At least among fans. There’s really no shortage of complaints that the Blue Oval screwed up its iconic muscle car by turning it into an electric SUV. But, it’s important to remember, enthusiasts aren’t what drives the market. And clearly, Ford saw a reason to step away from his roots.

It may not come with a powerful combustion engine, but it does have direct steering and what is essentially an on/off switch for power. And it seems like consumers are responding to that. Some people just need four doors, but that doesn’t mean they don’t want the legacy of an iconic sports car.

Although the Ford Mustang Mach E may have it under in terms of numbers. A gas engine provides that “soul” feeling that many of us have come to love from our cars. And while some of us might have a strong feeling that a real Mustang needs an engine, clearly, Ford doesn’t.

How many Mustang Mach E SUVs has Ford sold?

According to , the Blue Oval managed to sell 28,089 Mach E units in 2022. That’s an increase of about 49% compared to 2021. And through 2023, Ford plans to continue to increase production of this electric SUV, allowing more units to sell.

Despite this, Mach E still faces supply chain constraints. And production remains limited. Once Ford can address these issues, this high-performance EV will likely only grow in popularity. Simply put, it appeals to more people than the gas-powered Mustang because most consumers want the benefits of four doors.

We can argue whether or not it’s a real Mustang until the cows come home. But the sales numbers show that the Blue Oval has won.
