Lawsuit Alert: The Ford Maverick in Hot Water

There is no getting around it. The Maverick is one of the most popular cars on the market today. Buying one seems almost impossible because Blue Oval is struggling to keep up with the demand for its pickup truck. But apparently, not all things are good for this little car. A lawsuit has been filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, which means he’s in hot water.

The 2022 Ford Maverick is having some recall issues

The 2022 Maverick may be a good little guy, but that doesn’t mean it’s immune to callbacks. Almost any new vehicle will experience a recall at some point in its life, some worse than others. In terms of recoil, the side curtain airbags are affected.

That is affected by the recall, along with other Ford vehicles that use the same type of airbag. The case of John Solak v. Ford Motor Company has been filed in the Eastern District of Michigan, and you’ll certainly be interested to see how it plays out.

Does the Maverick have airbag problems?

During an audit conducted by NHTSA, it was discovered that the side curtain airbags were defective. Offset results showed it to be more than the federal regulation limit of 100 mm. It’s also above Blue Oval’s preliminary test results, which is why there’s a recall for the 2022 Maverick.

Now, it’s important to note that the plaintiff in the lawsuit is not claiming that his airbag failed. Ford is not aware of any real-world problems caused by faulty airbags. Ford Motor Company initially issued the airbag recall in August of 2022. But there seems to be no real solution in place yet.

According to Maverick owners who have been affected by this issue, they have not left the dealership empty-handed. Apparently, Ford sent a Yeti tumbler to help ease the pain of the defective airbag. But this gift wasn’t enough to stop a class action lawsuit from happening.

The Ford Maverick remains a popular pickup truck

Despite facing a recall, popularity does not seem to concede. People who want a pickup truck that looks and feels like a traditional pickup truck are somewhat limited in their options. Sure, there’s the Hyundai Santa Cruz. But that car looks more like a crossover than a truck. And the Santa Cruz lacks the Maverick’s off-road chops.

One of the reasons it might be popular is its hybrid drive. A hybrid powertrain comes standard on this pickup truck, and it appears to be the most requested model. Just keep in mind that the 2022 Maverick is currently facing a lawsuit.
