Like the little Subaru, the Crosstrek has always enjoyed some success. It’s both practical and affordable, so it’s easy to see why people like it so much. For the 2018 model year, the Subaru Crosstrek adopted the Subaru Global Platform and has been truly successful ever since. But now, the third generation is here. So is it a big improvement over the 2023 Crosstrek?
Will the 2023 Crosstrek be redesigned?
While the Crosstrek is all-new in the 2023 year, the redesign is officially for the 2024 model year. It boasts the same powertrain options, new styling, and some updated features. And for that reason, it may actually be better than the 2023 model.
That’s probably what you’d expect from this little SUV. It has a light lift, standard all-wheel drive, and a rugged attitude not always found in this segment. The base price was raised about two thousand dollars to $26,290, and that’s because the manual transmission is no longer an option.
The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek is new but familiar
While the 2024 Crosstrek is all-new, it doesn’t look all that different from the outgoing model. And for some, that might be a bit of a bummer. One of the biggest similarities is what comes under the hood
The 152-horsepower engine is still standard fare, but if you want more power, you can get a 2.5-liter engine with 182 hp. For most uses, opting for that updated engine might be the best choice. Second, the base powertrain can feel a bit sluggish. Especially for a vehicle of this size.
Is the Crosstrek AWD?
Every Subaru SUV comes with standard all-wheel drive. At this point, the only Subaru without this feature is the BRZ. But, as a sports car, it sure makes sense. Subaru said it has made improvements to the AWD system. And that should make the response faster.
If you are familiar with this brand, you probably know “”, which is Subaru’s off-road driving mode. Apparently, it also gets some improvements. And that will likely be appreciated by those planning to take this vehicle on adventures or if you’re dealing with things like snow.
Subaru’s small SUV is popular
As a small SUV, the Crosstrek has long been a popular choice. It often tops the list in terms of sales for Subaru. It’s really not hard to see why it is. With an initial cost of less than $30,000, standard safety equipment, and a usable interior, the Crosstrek is quite versatile.
It may be more expensive than the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek, but it looks like Subaru has made some interesting updates. While, as an enthusiast, I’m sad that the stick is gone, how many people buy an SUV with a stick? Probably not that many, especially since handmade shifts are on their way out.
