Since its 2019 redesign, the G Wagon has become one of the most sought-after luxury SUVs on the market. Due to high demand, values have soared, and some new owners have apparently shelled out double the vehicle’s MSRP. It appears that the bubble is finally bursting as the value of 2019, 2020 and 2021 G-Class SUVs is declining. Last fall, more than 1,600 people were listed on AutoTrader at any one time, and as of early 2023, this number surpasses 1,000. It might seem like the perfect time to pick one up, but if values keep going down, you could end up regretting your investment.
How much is a 2021 G-Wagon worth?
According to , the current average selling price of a 2021 Mercedes G-Class is $198,411. This is still above the vehicle’s original MSRP. But not that every model year the second-generation G Wagon’s value has plummeted more than 20 percent since this time last year.

But the same month that iSeeCars was compiling its 2022 report, more than 1,600 G-Class SUVs went on sale on AutoTrader. It seems that the second generation G-Class’ exceptional lack of depreciation may have come to an end. A , for comparison, loses about 8.7% of its value in its first five years of travel, which is far less than the industry average. A Cadillac Escalade ESV loses 52.3% of its value over the same period. We’ll have to wait and find out at which end of this spectrum the G-Class lands.
How much is the cheapest G-Class?
Mercedes-Benz advertises the current G 550 MSRP at $139,900. While technically the entry-level trim, it features a powerful V8 and AWD. Used G-Class prices correlate to the vehicle’s age and mileage, although there are bargains to be had before the 2019 redesign.
The average 2018 Mercedes Benz G-Class currently costs $122,014. To get under $100,000, you may have to go all the way back to the 2016 model year, which is currently changing hands for $90,724 on average.
