Honda Made a CR-V Hybrid With 800-Hp, Sounds Like the Devil

Have you ever been in a Honda and thought, “Dude, this car is almost perfect, but I really wish it could go 1,000 mph”? Well, me neither, but (Honda Performance Department) did and decided to make it a reality. Honda made a CR-V Hybrid with 800hp, and it sounds more like a crossover than a crossover.

What is HPD?

The Honda Performance Department is the performance arm of . This group does off-road and track racing. You may have seen a racing or R-type car in the past; this is HPD.

reports that Honda today announced that HPD’s CR-V will be a hybrid model good for up to 800 horsepower, also working with Honda’s Auto Development Center (ADC) and North America Auto Design Division.

Honda has yet to debunk how HPD is making that 800bhp, but from the sound of things, it looks like it has something to do with F1.

What engine does the Honda CR-V Hybrid use?

The regular Honda CR-V Hybrid we use in this reality is powered by a 204hp engine. Obviously, the hybrid uses a mix of ICE and electric power, but there’s no way that’s what’s happening with the HPD version. There’s a good chance that electric power is helping quite a bit, but even still, 204hp to 800hp is one hell of a leap. Again, the sounds coming out of that monstrosity have something fuel-drinking behind them. Whether or not it’s the CR-V’s regular 2.0-litre engine is yet to be seen.

What else has HPD changed?

While we can’t fully answer it yet, the video does give some hints that the answer might as well be anything but the name. Let’s see a short clip of the interior. Inside the hybrid monster CR-V is what looks like a , a full racing cage, bucket seats with 5-point harnesses, and honestly, nothing that resembles a CR-V in any way.

Even the exterior is very different from the sparkling crossover we are all used to. The bodywork never misses an opportunity to be covered with aerodynamic surfaces, keeping the now true crossover glued to the ground. There are wings everywhere. Carbon fiber comes in waves. Finally, the CR-V is slammed so low that driving through the Walmart parking lot could be difficult. Overall, this Honda CR-V Hybrid is a fully transformed asphalt eater from hell.

Honda admits that while the body and interior are still rough, it’s still in the planning stage. The HPD CR-V Hybrid will be unveiled on February 28.
