Google Updates Display & Video 360 Account Level Suspension Policies

Over the course of the year, Google has made several updates and clarifications to its opt-out policies.

These updates are mostly about providing advertisers with more context about the nature of ad disapprovals.

Earlier this year, Google updated its ads destination policy, unavailable video policy, and three strikes rule.

To round out the year, Google is updating account-level holds for Display & Video 360 users in December 2022.

What will change?

Google is updating the Disapprovals and Suspensions homepage to create a page for Display & Video 360 users.

The new page will explain what violations That would constitute account suspension. These include:

  • circumvent systems
  • Coordinated deceptive practices
  • forgery
  • Promotion of unauthorized pharmacies
  • Unacceptable business practices
  • Trade sanctions violation
  • Explicit sexual content

While the new Display & Video 360 page isn’t available yet, expect to see additional context for the above violations to make sure you avoid them.

Repeat violations can result in suspension

In addition to the above violations, Google has announced that the partner’s account may also be at risk of being suspended.

If an advertiser within a partner account is found to be repeatedly violating the policies, the account itself can be suspended. To be clear, this does not mean that any violation may lead to account suspension.

Google’s announcement stated that if a partner’s or advertiser’s account was “repeatedly or predominantly involved in severe policy violations,” it could cause suspension.

per google identificationThe grave breaches are:

  • “A violation so serious that it is illegal or causes significant harm to our users or our digital advertising ecosystem. Severe violations often reflect that the advertiser’s business in general is not adhering to Google Ads policies or a single violation is so severe that we cannot risk future exposure to our users.” .

So, what can you do if this happens?

The good news is that both the partner and the advertiser can appeal an account suspension if they are hit by one.

summary

Google constantly reviews our Ads and Accounts policies and violations. Consistent updates throughout the year have given advertisers more clarity on not only the nature of disapprovals but also more guidance on how to troubleshoot these violations.

Since Google relies on both human interaction and automation to detect violations, it’s always a good idea to check your account for any disapprovals every week.

As Google rolls out the new policy page, we’ll update this article to include the link.
