Getting a Diesel Jeep Gladiator Comes With Some Sacrifices

The 2023 Gladiator is a mid-size Jeep truck. And despite its off-road capability the brand is known for, it wasn’t the most popular pickup truck. But for the Jeep enthusiast who needs a pickup truck, it’s there. And you can actually get it with a diesel engine.

Is a diesel gladiator worth it?

You may be wondering if a diesel Jeep Gladiator is worth it. And cost is something to consider. If you wanted a diesel truck, doing so would add an extra cost of about $5,000.

It comes with some perks. The 3.6-liter V6 engine produces 260 lb-ft of torque. With the 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine, you’ll get 442 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the power of the diesel and the turbocharger. So if you plan to do actual truck stuff, like towing, there’s reason to consider a diesel Gladiator.

A diesel gladiator could be practical

Since the diesel engine is forced induction, it can have some benefits for some people. For example, if you’re someone who lives at altitude, the 3.6-liter V6 might do just fine.

Another advantage is more driving range. The fuel tank may be smaller, but it’s more efficient. So, even though diesel is more expensive than gasoline right now, you may be able to save money in the long run.

Plus, you’ll know you’re not like others on the road. Most people probably overlook this powertrain option. So, you have to imagine it’s a rather rare sight. It would be nice if you got a diesel engine mated to a manual transmission. But Jeb clearly doesn’t see it as worth the effort.
