The used market is always a hotly contested place, with many models and manufacturers vying for the top spot. According to sales data, the most popular used trucks for 2022 are the Silverado and Ram 1500. These three models have consistently demonstrated strong performance in terms of sales and customer satisfaction. This is primarily due to its reputation for durability, reliability and ability to meet the requirements of a wide range of drivers.
Ford trucks reign supreme as the most used truck in 2022
When we looked at used car sales in 2022, we looked at nearly 10 million used cars on the road last year. Full-size pickups were the most popular, ahead of SUVs, crossovers, and sedans. According to market data, it was the most popular vehicle in 31 states.
It accounted for 2.8% of total used car sales last year. It also ranked second in 2021, with 2.6% of sales. With the Ram 1500 taking third place with 2.3% of sales in 2022, full-size pickup trucks accounted for 8% of all used vehicle sales last year.

Only the top three trucks made it into the top 10 used cars sold in 2022. SUVs and sedans made up the remainder. While buyers have purchased more pickup trucks than any other vehicle, more buyers seem to be interested in SUVs this year than ever before. SUVs accounted for 8.6% of all used car sales in the top ten.

It’s clear which truck is the winner, as it’s the most popular choice in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, and Arkansas, all the way to West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The next most popular vehicle was the Chevrolet Equinox SUV, coming in as the most popular vehicle in six states.
If that wasn’t enough, it was the most used car in 24 out of 20 metro areas. The Chevrolet Equinox and Chevrolet Silverado followed closely behind, taking the most popular spot in six metro areas each.
With a wide range of trim levels and unlimited customization options, the Ford F-150 is poised to maintain its position as the best-selling used truck in 2023. With Ford selling a new truck, it’s clear that Chevrolet and Ram will have a challenging time dethroning this king of trucks.
